Scouting Report: the defensive line
BeaverBlitz Recruiting Staff
BeaverBlitz.com In 2009 the Beavers stocked up on offensive linemen, in 2010 the need was on the defensive front and the Beavers did a good job of identifying and recruiting some top calibur players. In Thomas Molesi, the Beavers landed a prospect who could come in and compete right away at tackle. Oakland Tech tackle Fred Thompson is another player who the Beavers targeted early and could make a big impact down the road.
The lone junior college transfer is Mission Viejo (Calif.) Saddleback College defensive end Dominic Glover. The Beavers recruited Glover out of high school, but he played at Oregon before an injury sidelined him. Now healthy, Glover looks to make his return to the PAC 10 as a Beaver.
Tacoma (Wash.) Foss defensive end Scott Crichton's recruitment flew a little under the radar, however the Beavers saw him early at their camp in June 2009 and offered him on the spot. Crichton is an explosive athlete who has the speed and athleticism to fit into Coach Seumalo's scheme.
The Beavers also landed a talented defensive tackle who looks to greyshirt and enter the fray in January 2011 in Mana Tuivailala. Academics probably kept Tuivailala off the charts, but he is doing well in the classroom and is expected to qualify by winter.
The BeaverBlitz Scouting Reports are based on the experience we've had at the Nike and College Camps in addition to first hand accounts from high school and junior college coaches that have worked with these players. We take into consideration information from the player, the physical attributes of each athlete, and information from other evaluators. We have taken the time to do film evaluation of each recruit. We've also tracked many of the in-state athletes through out their high school careers. The following comments are strictly our observations and opinions and do not reflect those of the Oregon State coaching staff.
