2012 elite safety headed to Tide camp
In addition to all the superstar 2011 recruits scheduled to attend Alabama's summer camp next week, a number of the top junior prospects in the South will also be in attendance at the event. One of the top athletes for the class of 2012, Panama City (FL) star Eddie Williams already holds an offer from the Tide along with offers from Florida and Florida State and will have a chance to showcase his talents at the event in Tuscaloosa.
"I am probably staying for most of the camp next week at Alabama," said Williams. "It will be a great opportunity for me to get better because Alabama is as good as it gets. Their coaching staff will point out things that I am doing wrong and make the right corrections to get me to the next level."
With three early offers already in and more likely on the way, Williams is quickly becoming one of the most pursued prospects in the South for the class of 2012.
"Alabama UGA, FSU all came to see me in the spring. I am honored for those schools to be after me and want me as part of their program. They have all offered me. I have a lot of FSU fans in my family, but Alabama has really made a strong impression on everyone in my family as well including me. Their academics are top notch and they really push getting a degree and life after football."
With experience playing a number of positions on both offense and defense, Williams' versatility is part of what makes him such a highly sought-after prospect, though the Crimson Tide have expressed a desire to put Williams to use in their secondary.
"Alabama likes me as a safety and some of the other schools like me as an athlete. I play running back, receiver and quarterback in high school so I could line up everywhere, but I sort of like defense because I like to hit and make a big impact on the game that way."
As a sophomore, Williams compiled 350 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns on offense and 40 tackles and three interceptions on defense.
