Dawson checks out the Trojans
Danville (Kent.) linebacker Lamar Dawson already had gone on two official visits, including one to the West coast, before he visited USC.
But that didn't take away from the excitement of his visit with the Trojans.
Dawson ventured from the Blue Grass State to take the third of his five visits. The four-star linebacker said the trip compared well to his official visits to Kentucky and Oregon.
"I liked it," Dawson said. "It was a great experience."
Among Dawson's chief concerns was how he would fit in with a new group of people. He left satisfied by the conversations he had with many of the current Trojans.
"I liked seeing the campus and hanging out with the players," Dawson said. "I felt comfortable out there with them."
USC defensive end Nick Perr y hosted Dawson on the trip. As a fellow out-of-state player, Perry was able to relate to some of Dawson's concerns about being in a new environment far from home.
"I asked him why he picked USC, and he said everything he needed was at USC," Dawson said. "He said all the players were a big family and he was really comfortable around them."
USC is recruiting Dawson to play SAM linebacker, though Dawson played WILL at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
"I think I could play any of the three positions," Dawson said. "It doesn't really matter to me."
For all of the highlights he saw on the visit, Dawson conceded that he still had some concerns. The distance is daunting, as is the prospect of living in a city as large as Los Angeles.
But Dawson ultimately left the school with a good feeling.
"It has its goods and its bad, but it compares very well with the other official visits I've been on," Dawson said. "I think it was one of the best."
Dawson plans to visit UCF this weekend and Tennessee the following weekend.
