This weekend will begin the high school football season in Oklahoma and see things continue in Texas for SoonerScoop.com and we're hitting the road like nowhere else. This weekend we'll be catching games from Oklahoma City to Dallas, to all the way down to San Antonio. On the weekend it's a healthy mix of current Sooner commitments as well as some of the up and coming names to remember in the classes of 2013 and 2014.
Casady @ Hertiage Hall - Eddie
Names To Know: Sterling Shepard, Barry Sanders, Markus Wakefield, Quintaz Struble.
There is little doubt that Shepard is the name that will catch the attention of most Sooner fans but if there is one player in the state that just does not get his due, it's Struble. The talented, albeit undersized, pass rusher is explosive off the edge and has the look of a very dangerous potential 3-4 outside linebacker before his career is done. It will also be a big game for Sanders Jr. who is playing in his first live game since before last year's playoffs. Finally watch for a few young players from Casady and as always we'll have a close eye on Heritage Hall junior lineman Jarrod Stewart, the cousin of former Sooner All-American Gerald McCoy.
Celina, Texas @ Plano Prestonwood Christian - Eddie
Names To Know: Jake Raulerson, Josh Raulerson, Christian Morgan, Anthony Morgan, Jordan Roos, Josh Baggett, Zac Grogean
It's not hard to make an early case for Jake Raulerson as Texas' top offensive tackle prospect in the class of 2013. He has made himself known at multiple camps around the country and has an offer list as impressive as any junior in the state. It will be interesting to see if he goes head up against his classmate Christian Morgan some as the two are both talented big men. When you add in that Roos is perhaps Texas' most under appreciated lineman and remember Anthony Morgan's stellar performance at Oklahoma's 2010 summer camp it's safe to say that Eddie will get his eyes on a solid collection of elite talent.
Edmond North @ Southmoore - Josh
Names to Know: Jackson Stallings, Karltrell Henderson, Andrew Long, Jared Benway, Heath Newland, Brock Byford,
Henderson and Newland are almost certainly the headliners among the under classmen as both figure to be guys who pick up some offers come next spring. Newland is a technically advanced offensive center who seems as comfortable pass blocking as he does driving a defender into the dirt. Henderson is a promising back who will continue to split time with the multi-talented Long but offers tough yards between the tackles yet still has more burst than one might expect. Stallings and Byford have flashed at times but we're hoping to see consistent performances all night from both. Finally look for a new offensive lineman at Edmond North that we've not yet seen to emerge as well as a few youngsters from Southmoore that have real promise.
San Antonio Brandeis @ Boerne-Champion - Josh
Names to Know: Kyle Marrs, Colin Blake, and Ervin Ellison.
What the game lacks in numbers it makes up for in major scholarship offers. Marrs, Oklahoma's first commitment for the class of 2012, has well over a dozen offers at the time of his decision and has picked up more since. It will be intriguing to watch how his self-reported weight loss helps some of his agility and lateral movement, the two real questions some had. Blake was stellar when we saw him in the spring but watching him read and react in game settings will be another things entirely; we know he has the physical skill but when the lights go on how well does he see things. The question is particularly valid for a player only entering his second full season of football. Ellison is an acrobatic receiver we liked in the spring, this could be a big chance for him to show his ability as a FBS recruit.
