2012 Breakdown: Wide Receivers
Alabama needed wide receivers in this class with the depature of Marquis Maze and Darius Hanks. The Crimson Tide has a total of four wide receivers committed for the 2012 class including five-star recruit Eddie Williams. Amari Cooper and Chris Black are also Rivals100 wide receivers. Casey Gladney is a three-star recruit, who could bring big-play ability to the Tide offense.
This is the fifthth in an eight-part series looking at Alabama's 2012 recruiting class as National Signing Day approaches.
| TIDESPORTS.COM'S LOOK AT THE WIDE RECEIVERS |
1. Chris Black
High School:First Coast High School, Jacksonville, Fla.
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 170 pounds
Analysis: Chris Black is all ready on campus at Alabama, graduating high school early. Going through spring practice will be beneficial to Black as the talented freshman competes for playing time in the 2012 season. Black finished in the Rivals100 as he finished as the No. 58-ranked player nationally and the eighth-ranked wide receiver. Black can stretch the field with his speed and big-play capability.
Quotable: "I just want to get up there, work hard, see where everything is at and try to compete for a starting position. I think it will help me out a lot, getting here, learning the plays, learning the system and being around the guys."

2. Amari Cooper
School: Miami Northwestern High School, Miami
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 175 pounds
Analysis: No wide receiver finished as strongly in this recruiting class than did Amari Cooper. He capped off a strong senior season with a Under Armour All-Star Game performance that left analysts raving about his week. He received an Alabama after a great camp performance last summer. One observer told TideSports.com that Cooper was the best wide receiver Alabama's had in camp since Julio Jones. He went from an off-the-radar prospect to the nation's No. 45 recruit and the sixth-ranked wide receiver.
Quotable: "I think we have the best class. We have a great class with a lot of great athletes, some out here practicing with us. We have the best players in our class. I think we can be real good. I think a lot of players coming in will have a great opportunity to start early, too."

3. Casey Gladney
High School: Columbia, S.C., Columbia, S.C.
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 177 pounds
Analysis: Gladney has some work to do in the classroom if he wants to report to Tuscaloosa in late-May. He had a huge senior season for Columbia High School head coach Kemper Amick. Gladney had a minor bump when he was sent home from the shrine Bowl in South Carolina, but there were no major character or disciplinary issues, just a misunderstanding. If Gladney qualifies, he can compete for playing time this season.
Quotable: "Alabama coaches told me, 'You've got the opportunity right in front of your face, right in your hands, and all you have to do is take advantage of it. That's why I committed right then. I don't want any distractions this year. I just want to focus on school. I'm more focused right now then I've ever been."

4. Eddie Williams
High School: Arnold High School, Panama City Beach, Fla.
Height/Weight: 6-foot-6, 273 pounds
Analysis: Williams in one of three five-star recruits for Alabama's 2012 class. He is a big-time athlete with a reputation as one of the top athletes in the country. He was originally projected as a safety but all indications are that he will begin his Crimson Tide career as a wide receiver. He
played quarterback and safety for Arnold High School. He is the nation's No. 24-ranked recruit and the No. 1-ranked athlete.
Quotable: ""Right now...after the camp this year...at the camp I played receiver, quarterback, safety. Right now they're not really looking at safety too much. As a receiver, Nick Saban talked to me about that. He told me whatever I want to play he's going to give me a chance to play it. If he sees me as a better fit at another position we'll have a meeting and talk about it."
