King awarded MVP at Best of the Midwest
Cornerback Desmond King was awarded the Most Valuable Player award at the Best of the Midwest football combine today in Indianapolis.
"First, I want to thank God for the strength he has given me to push myself to be the best," said King. "It feels great and I'm grateful for the honor of winning the MVP. My mom told me to go to work and I did."
King is part of a very talented junior class coming out of Detroit Crockett. Along with King, there is tight end Khalid Hill, who has already committed to Michigan, offensive lineman Jalen Dandridge, who is getting interest from Michigan State and Central Michigan, and cornerback Khalil Hill.
King, who stands at 5-foot-11, weighs 170 pounds and runs a 4.5 40-yard dash, has not picked up an offer yet, but has interest from Central Michigan, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue and Stanford.
The Chippewas has consistently been in contact with the Detroit native and he will be taking an unofficial visit to Mount Pleasant this weekend as a part of Central Michigan's Junior Day.
King has already taken unofficial visits to Michigan, Michigan State and Toledo. He is planning on taking an unofficial visit to Iowa soon. He also expects to take another unofficial visit to Michigan State in the near future.
Most schools are recruiting King to play cornerback, although a few have shown some interest in him as a running back. The Chippewas are projecting him as a cornerback. He is planning on making a verbal commitment near the middle of his football season next fall.
Crockett went 8-1 in the regular season last fall, with wins over eventual state champion Detroit Cass Tech and state runner-up Detroit Catholic Central. They made the MHSAA Division 4 Regional Final, where they fell to eventual state runner-up Marine City, 15-7.
"It's encouraging and motivational to play with such talented teammates. I look up to them and they make me want to work harder. My goal is to work hard and get faster. I'm running track right now and lifting weights a lot."
