Deion Jones is a Tiger
Deion "Debo" Jones to change his original plans.LSU didn't have to look far to continue addressing its linebacker needs for the future when the Tigers were able to get Jesuit standout linebacker
Jones, who committed to Nebraska in August, rescinded that pledge Thursday evening after an in-home visit with LSU recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson.
"I committed to LSU last night," Jones said.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Jones is LSU's 21st overall commitment and fourth from a linebacker along with Thibodaux's Trey Granier, Breaux Bridge's Lamar Louis and Woodlawn's Torshiro Davis. West St. John's Ronnie Feist is another prospect that could play linebacker once he arrives in Baton Rouge.
Jones just helped Jesuit finish one of the school's most outstanding seasons that included a 10-0 regular-season finish and District 9-5A championship.
The Blue Jays wound up 12-1 following a 28-17 loss to Carencro in last week's Class 5A state quarterfinals.
Jones finished the season with a sterling 169 tackles or an average of 13 stops per game. He had eight sacks, five caused fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three interceptions.
Jones is a three-star prospect and nation's No. 32 outside linebacker and is being recruited as a MIKE linebacker by the LSU staff.
Jones, who plans to take an official visit to LSU on Dec. 17, said the biggest contributing factor in his switch of pledges boiled down to those around him.
"I thought mostly about family," Jones said. "I wouldn't have been able to see my family as much. To me family is a big thing. I have a feeling I will excel."
