Shawn Eichorst has resigned as athletic director at the University of Miami.
"I am deeply disappointed in Shawn's departure to the University of Nebraska as I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. We wish Shawn and his wonderful family the very best at their new post," UM President Donna Shalala said in a statement.
President Shalala has appointed Blake James, Senior Associate Athletic Director, as the Acting Director of Athletics. James served as the Director of Athletics at the University of Maine from 2005-2010 and returned to the University of Miami in 2010, having previously worked at UM from 1995-1997 and from 1998-2001.
Eichorst was named A.D. on April 12, 2011, taking over for Kirby Hocutt. Eichorst has reportedly accepted the job at Nebraska, replacing the retiring Tom Osborne.
Eichorst leaves his short tenure at UM with one major hiring - UM basketball coach Jim Larranaga - and he also gave a long-term contract to football coach Al Golden.
Before arriving at Miami Eichorst served from 2009-11 as the Deputy AD at the University of Wisconsin.
