Sign-up for CaneSport.com Wireless Text Alerts sent right to your cell phone!The 21st-ranked University of Miami baseball team recorded over 20 hits for the second straight game as the Hurricanes eased past Wake Forest, 19-6, in the first game of Saturday's double-header at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The win for Miami (34-18, 17-12 ACC) secured the series win over Wake Forest (22-29, 6-23 ACC). After scoring 23 runs in the series opener on Thursday, Miami turned in its second-highest run total of the season in the first game on Saturday, plating 19 against the Demon Deacons. UM also hit a season-high six home runs as a team and a total of 11 extra-base hits. Five UM hitters finished with three hits, including Chris Herrmann, who finished 3-for-3 with two homers, four RBI and three runs scored and Scott Lawson, who went 3-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Jason Hagerty, Harold Martinez and Dave DiNatale had Miami's other three homers. Iden Nazario (6-3) turned in his best outing in over a month, allowing two runs on just three hits while walking three and striking out nine in six innings of work to earn the win. Jason Santana earned his first save of the season, allowing four runs over the final three innings. Wake Forest starter Garrett Bullock (1-5), suffered the loss, allowing nine runs on 13 hits in five innings before Brandon Johnson came on to start the sixth. Johnson, Gabriel Feldman, Eli Robins and Ryan Bouton went the rest of the way for Wake. Herrmann put the 'Canes on the board first with a solo homer to left to lead off the second inning. After the next to UM batters were retired, back-to-back singles set up a Lawson blast off the scoreboard in right-center, putting UM up 4-0. For Lawson, it was his second homer of the series after hitting just two all season coming into the series. UM scored three more runs in the third to go up 7-0. Hagerty singled to lead off the inning and after advancing to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Yasmani Grandal double off the wall in right-center. Grandal proceeded to steal third and then scored the 'Canes sixth run on a Herrmann single to right before Herrmann eventually came around two batters later on a DiNatale single to left. Wake Forest scored its first two runs in the bottom half of the third on a two-run homer to left by Steven Brooks. DiNatale made it 9-2 in the fifth with a two-out, two-run opposite field homer to right. With two outs and a man on third, Miami rallied for four more runs in the sixth. After Grandal singled to short, back-to-back homers by Herrmann and Martinez put the 'Canes up 11. From there, Miami scored two in the eighth and four in the ninth while Wake scored four of its six runs in the bottom of the eighth. Mike Murray was the lone Demon Deacon with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. The Hurricanes and Demon Deacons will play game two of the series at approximately 5 p.m. Game Notes - Miami recorded a season-high six home runs in the first game Saturday. The Hurricanes also had a season-high 11 extra-base hits, adding five doubles to their home run total. - After recording 25 hits in the series opener, the 'Canes tallied 23 more in game two. - Chris Herrmann recorded his second multi-home run game of the season and his second in the last 15 days. The first time he hit two in a game was in a 7-5 win over Boston College on May 2. - Iden Nazario's nine strikeouts was the second-highest strikeout total of his career. His career-high of 10 came earlier this season against Georgia Tech on March 29. - The series win for Miami was its 18th in its last 22 in ACC play.
