First its the emasculation of the NFL now the same for college football. Slip and fall lawyers and crooked disability attorneys are causing dramatically increased costs to private business and the taxpayers. Some generic drugs are in short supply because of the slim profit margins due to high insurance costs. Doctors who perform complex surgery are constantly in fear of losing all their hard earned assets because of the perverse way that malpractice cases are judged by medically untrained judges and juries. The same goes for disability cases.
Now lawyers are trying to manufacture a problem by trolling on TV looking for drug reactions that havent even been reviewed by the FDA or shown to be legitimate. Those lawyers through a nationwide kickback and extortion scheme are driving the price of drugs up significantly. You want to see a typical example of their morality -look at John Edwards. I would say look at Obama but he has never worked a day in his life doing anything.
The Tort system has become corrupt. Its time to adopt the English system that treats a suit as an assault and those who lose are forced to pay monetary damages to the accused.

LAWYERS are ruining this country...??? roll

Sure thing my man...

- More PRESIDENTS have been lawyers than any other profession
- Lawyers make up the UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT
- Lawyers make up the State and Federal Prosecutors Offices to PROSECUTE CRIMINALS
- Lawyers are the BACKBONE of Legislative ideas, proposals, and lobbying
- Lawyers help protect the PRIVATE INTERESTS of the PEOPLE

If you don't like lawyers, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND moving to The Middle East, Northern Africa, or North Korea- you won't find many lawyers "ruining the country" there lol...

Our judicial system is flawed, many attorneys are unethical, and the judicial system often falls short of true justice, but lawyers are not "ruining the country".

I never thought I would read a thread which was as equally ignorant as it is entertaining- until now...

Classic!

I agree. When hospital's and doctors can maim and kill, and their damages are capped at $100,000.00, there is a problem. When medical device manufacturers can produce defective devices and escape liability because the FDA approved the device - even when the company knew or should have known the device was defective, the justice system is perverse. When big corporations can write arbitration clauses into the fine print of their cell phone contracts making it cost prohibitive to obtain compensation when they unlawfully overcharge milions of people $30 each, there is a problem.

Lawyers aren't ruining this country, they for the most part, are doing everything they can to preserve what few rights consumers still have.

He has a point. A valid point. Look at the housing situation. Lawyers are delaying foreclosure so that their clients can be squatters in homes and not pay a. Dime for years . Meanwhile the taxpayers are paying the rent. Try moving into an apartment and being 10 days late. By and large lawyers produce nothing but we graduate zillions a year. Meanwhile China graduates 1 million engineers and science majors a year . Bingo they win

I think he means ambulance chasers. Last year my business did the coaches tour Orlando dinner and despite it being a non profit event some doush bag fell out of one of the extra chairs that we had to rent to accommodate everyone and sued us with bogin muns. All this after he already told our bar tender that just happens to be paramedic along with a physician that just happen to be standing there that he was fine. Oh well I hope screwing over a non profit event for the hurricanes was worth it for about a year long law suit that ended in about a $1000 settlement from our insurance. Every day we have food wast that we'd love to take to the rescue mission right around the corner but not with so many ambulance chasers like that running
around.

Maybe you should call a lawyer next time you need an emergency surgery, or fill out a script for a life saving drug, or maybe the attorney can perform a cancer screening. No big deal right?

There are good attorneys and bad attorneys; good doctors and bad doctors; good head coaches and bad head coaches; good cops and bad cops; good teachers and bad teachers; good civlians and bad civilians.

No one group of professionals is dragging down this country, so I find it ignorant to argue this group or that group is the primary cause of the country's problems. People from ALL backgrounds, races, religions, genders, and professions made this s**tburger, and now EVERYONE is charged with the responsibility of trying to put the pieces back together. To me, the ability for people from all different walks of life to work together to make this country a better place is the primary foundation for what has made our country the best country for 200+ years.

Ther are over 300,000,000 people in this country, so let's try to be a little more reasonable and responsible by NOT singling out a particular profession.

I understand the criticism towards personal injury attorneys and foreclosure defense attorneys. However, it is important to understand that there are MANY different areas of practicing law.

- State Prosecutor
- Federal Prosecutor
- Public Defender
- Probate
- Transaction
- Insurance Defense
- Commercial Litigation
- Condominium Law
- Personal Injury
- Tax Law
- Elder Law
- Development and Zoning Law
- Medical Malpractice
- Real Estate Law
- Bankrputcy

That's FIFTEEN areas of the law I just reeled off without even thinking... There are probably 5-10 more- so, it is a SHORT-SIGHTED argument to casually "lump" all atorneys into one ball and then conclude that the entire legal profession is dragging down the country. Truth be told, it's silly.

This topic pisses me off like no other. Tort reform my ass!

When a rich corporatist says 'tort reform' walk away.

The very last bastion of hope common working, middle class folk have is 'their day in court' and it is being taken away? Too many on this board watch too many hours of Fox News.

Vote how you want this year, but do not think for one second tort reform is positive for the 'common people'.

What do you mean Obama hasn't done anything? It took Bush 8 years (2000-08) to increase the national debt by 4.3 Trillion and it only took Barak Husein Obama 2 years (2008/10) to increase it by 3.5 trillion! I don't have this years figures yet doggone it. Four more years, four more years, four more years!!! Socialism. Bring it on! I am out of debt, have a garden, and plenty of ammo!

not sure what you mean bama, but get the figures on how much these wars (started by Bush) and the epic collapse in the economy (caused by Bush) are still costing us. if you have so much ammo, maybe you should help out the soldiers. it's similar to what we say about Golden having to take over from what Shannon lef or Shannon from what Coker left....sometimes it gets worse because of what you have to start with.

We need a no frivolous law suit law like Texas has that says if you sue somebody and they prove their innocence you then have to pay them their attorney costs. It's ridiculous that anybody can sue anybody with out even needing a reason and if you can't afford to defend your innocence for the long haul you end up having to settle out of court for something that could very well have nothing to do with you. Make no mistake about it this is happening all over Florida every day.

Neither one of them will do most of the stuff they say they will and nor do they even have the ability to do most of the stuff they say they will. I wish we elected leaders as presidents instead of the ones who buckle to every stupid noisy group who do nothing themselves to contribute to society just because they can help them and their cronies fill their pockets.

As I read once the US has 80% of the world's lawyers and you look at all the unconstitutional laws being written and passed by lawyers in Congress and you get an idea maybe we have too many lawyers in the US. The big problem in the United States today is the lack of morals and greed. And as God is slowly removed from public and private life the decline of this great republic and society accelerates.

I don't believe the UNIVERSITY of Miami will be filing any suit against the NFL, nor will any of their AMATEUR status collegiate players....so nice try, but big fail on the connect absent the relevancy of the topic.

As to "owning" up to my personal choice of occupation...who the fuck are you for me to own up to? Are you a physician with some God complex? A janitor that got a raw deal? Wait...let me guess, you hired an attorney and despite the "no guarantee" clause in the employment contract, got pissy when he didn't win for you?

Tell you what sweetheart....I sleep very well at night. I fight the good fights and when and if I have taken on a plaintiff's case over the years for a corporate client, you can bet your custodial art ass there was not a frivolous aspect of even the Complaint.

That is why I have a general disdain for attorneys, because many do not follow my rules of ethics and morality....but there are a lot of them out there that do...so to broad brush any profession displays ignorance. Congratulations on mastering ignorance in one thread.

There are bad humans in every walk of life and they are the scum of society whether they are a lawyer or police or doctor or drug dealer.
