2012 Ath. picks up Tide offer

One of the fastest rising prospects in Alabama for the class of 2012 is Prattville quarterback Justin Thomas, a dual-threat playmaker who used his blazing speed to help lead Prattville to the 6A state championship game last season. Thomas has spent the summer astonishing college coaches at camps around the South and after picking up an offer at LSU's camp, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound star picked up yet another offer at the Crimson Tide's camp last week.

"The Alabama offer was huge news because me and my family have followed Alabama all of our lives," said Thomas. "It was pretty cool to hear that Coach (Nick Saban) thought that much of me to say he had a place for me. He thought I could help the team out in a lot of different ways. He said it didn't matter to them, he just wanted me at Alabama."

Thomas said he believed his speed and overall athleticism impressed and surprised the Tide coaching staff.

"I worked out at quarterback because that is where I wanted to get my work in. I play quarterback for Prattville and we are trying to win a state championship so I wanted to get better there. I thought I threw the ball really well. I think I surprised the coaches."

"The first time I ran my 40 I ran a 4.2 something. They had me run it again after I worked out some more and I ran a 4.3. I don't think they believed what they saw the first time. The same thing happened at Auburn when I ran for them. They thought the clocks were messed up, but I have been blessed with a lot of speed."

With two offers in hand and more likely on the way, Thomas can likely expect his recruitment to continue to intensify over the coming months as more and more programs around the country become aware of his elite speed and versatile skill set.

"LSU and Alabama are my two offers and Florida has told my coaches they are going to offer soon too. Right now I am just sitting back and taking it in because it is early and I want to see my options before I rush into anything."
