Junior Day Notebook

The Alabama Crimson Tide's second Junior Day event for the Class of 2012 drew some of the nation's top junior prospects to campus but also provided an opportunity for some up and coming prospects to get to know the Tide coaching staff a little better. Among those up and coming prospects was Carrollton (GA) tight end Zach Gordon, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect who has begun to receive interest from a number of SEC programs. Gordon was impressed with the Alabama campus and had a chance to speak with the Tide coaching staff in hopes of further developing the relationship.

"It's just a beautiful campus. It was a great day for a visit," Gordon said. "I definitely liked the layout of everything and how close the dorms are in relationship to the classrooms, the practice fields, and the stadium. It all seemed pretty easy to get around. I fell in love with the campus- it was just really nice.

"I met with Coach Saban in his office for a little bit. We talked for about 25 minutes. He talked about how I was one of the main guys they're looking at for the tight end/h-back position. He also talked about how they wanted me to come to some camps. He was definitely very interested. It was really cool to talk with the head coach."

"We got here and registered and got paired up with a nice tour guide. We went to the weight room, ate lunch in the stadium, and watched the highlights from the field. Then Coach (Scott) Cochran, the strength coach talked with a little bit. Then we split off into position groups and spent about 30 minutes watching film and talking with our position coaches."

While the Tide are still looking to do some more evaluating before extending an offer to Gordon, the Georgia native said an offer from Alabama would put the Tide near the top of his list.

"I'd say Alabama is definitely up there. I really like the feel of the campus and the atmosphere around the program. If they were to offer, they'd be close to the top."

Recent commit meets future teammates

Thomasville athlete Tyler Hayes declared his love for Alabama with a Valentine's Day commitment announcement and this weekend the 6-foot-3, 215-pound star took his first visit to Tuscaloosa since committing to the Crimson Tide.

"I just hung out with the football players today," Hayes said. "I was with Nico Johnson, C.J. Moseley, and Jay Williams. They're all real cool and laid back like my high school friends. I also talked with T.J. Yeldon from Daphne. I think he likes Alabama."

Hayes said that his strong early impressions of Alabama along with some encouraging words from a former Thomasville teammate made his decision to choose the Crimson Tide an easy one.

"I liked really liked Alabama's academic program. My high school teammate, Jay Williams, is a punter for Alabama. I told him I'd come play with him if Alabama offered me, and they did, so here I am. It wasn't a hard decision."

"I talked with coach Pruitt. We're real cool. He's the coach I committed to earlier this week. He was pretty excited when I told him. I called Coach Saban the next day. He said they were real excited to have me on board."
