Spartans in the mix for massive OL
The state of Michigan is not deep when it comes to offensive line talent for the class of 2012. For that reason, the Spartan staff is looking to Ohio to address their need. One of the first players they offered for the class of 2012 is Kyle Dodson of Cleveland Heights High School in Ohio. Spartanmag.com spoke with this impressive recruit last night and got the details on his recruitment.
The last few weeks Dodson has seen his recruiting stock blow-up as he has picked up numerous impressive scholarship offers. We asked him about receiving so many scholarships and what school he has been able to check out.
"It is an amazing and a humbling experience to be offered these scholarships and I feel really blessed and excited," Dodson said. "I have already visited Michigan State, Ohio state, Auburn, and Alabama. I am visiting Michigan this Saturday and I will be at Wisconsin on the 26th of March."
At one point Dodson checked in a 365-pound, he has since dropped a considerable amount of weight and is now in the process of adding quality muscle mass to his massive frame. Spartanmag.com asked him about his current size and his thoughts about the Michigan State program.
"Right now I am 6-foot-6 and a ½ and I weigh 311-pounds," he said. "I really like Michigan State. The coaches there are great and the program is excellent. Michigan State will always be in the mix to the very end because they were the first school to offer me. That meant a lot."
Despite the Spartans offering and numerous other schools like Alabama, Illinois, Michigan and West Virginia following suit, tOhio State has yet to extend him a scholarship. We asked Dodson what he is hearing from the Buckeyes.
"They have sad that I will have an offer from them as soon as I get an 18 on the ACT," he stated. "I grew up a fan of Ohio State, but as of right now that is not going to be something that influences my decision."
So what are some of the things Dodson is looking for in his college choice?
"The number one thing I am looking for is the academics," Dodson said. "I want to study Criminal Justice so I want the school to have a good program. The number two thing I am looking for is a team that has good chemistry and is successful. The third thing I am looking for is being comfortable with the people and surroundings."
No doubt the Michigan State Staff will be working hard to have Dodson back on campus several times in the near future. Building rapport with him will be an important part of his recruitment. It certainly cannot hurt teh Spartans chances with Dodson that Michigan State's Criminal Justice program is routinely ranked one of the best in the nation.
SpartanMag.com asked Dodson what type of feedback he has received from the college coaches he has spoken with about his ability and play.
"The coaches have said they like the fact that I am very aggressive, smart and never give up on a play. They say they like that I am very athletic for someone my size and that I am a hard worker."
SpartanMag.com will be sure to keep an eye out for Dodson at the Spartan Elite 1-Day Camp.
