Elder surprised with new offer

The Ohio State coaching staff continued their on-going recruiting efforts in the state of Georgia on Thursday afternoon as they extended an offer to one of the state's top players, Chaz Elder. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety prospect from Banneker High School is rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com.
"I was surprised," said Elder. "That's one of those offers that really makes a statement. My position coach told me today (about the offer)."
The offer clearly caught Elder off guard as he has not had any previous contact with the Ohio State coaching staff. He's hoping that will change at some point this off-season.
"I'd definitely be interested in looking at them," Elder said. "I'd like to go up to campus and take a look at everything if I get a chance. I don't know too much about them but I've watched them on TV a few times. They have a nice team and a good field, they're a great team."
Elder's offer list is an impressive one and stretches across the entire eastern half of the country. In total, Elder has accumulated approximately 20 offers from some big name programs. So far, three schools are sitting pretty for his services.
"I know three schools that are at the top for sure but I'm still looking for more (offers)," he said. "Basically Georgia, Clemson, and South Carolina have stood out. That's probably my top three, right there. I like the coaches at those three schools, they are really cool, and I like the people there."
At the moment, Elder doesn't have much of a timetable in terms of narrowing his list down or making a final decision but he's hoping to have it out of the way by the winter.
"It'll be before Signing Day," Elder said of his decision. "It will probably be sometime around my season. I'm going to try to take all five of my visits."
