Bucks offer another Florida WR

If Ohio State doesn't land a wide receiver from Florida this cycle, it won't be for a lack of effort. The Buckeyes have offered eight receivers already from the Sunshine state and on Thursday morning the latest to receive an offer was Miramar product Devonte Mathis. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect was excited to receive the news.

"Well it was a pretty exciting thing for me," said Mathis. "Ohio State is a big school and I talked about it with my parents and teammates and everything and everybody was pretty excited about it."

Ohio State assistant coach Paul Haynes was at Miramar High School on Thursday morning and was able to speak with Mathis and his coaches. Haynes has been the lead recruiter for Mathis to this point.

"Coach (Paul) Haynes came into the school, I had talked to him before on the phone," Mathis said. "He's a pretty nice guy and he just informed me and my coach that they really wanted me."

Ohio State joins the likes of Florida State, Mississippi, South Florida, Central Florida, Wake Forest, and West Virginia as schools that have offered the talented playmaker. Though Mathis hasn't narrowed his list, the offer puts Ohio State in solid position.

"Immediately it puts them on my list because they are always a top contender," Mathis said. "They're definitely going to be in my top (group of schools)."

It is always a battle to pull high level recruits out of the state of Florida and one of Florida's "Big Three" is hot on Mathis' trail.

"I really like Florida State," he said. "Right now they're coming at me hard and I like their coaches and stuff."

At this point Mathis says he has no timetable on when a decision might be made and he hasn't decided if he will take his official visits or if he will decide to end the process before his senior season. BuckeyeGrove.com will continue to track his recruitment and report new developments as they are made available.
