YPSILANTI - The high school football season in the state of Michigan kicked off on Thursday night. Two days later, the eyes of the prep football world in Michigan turned to Ypsilanti for a couple of high-profile games played at Eastern Michigan University in the Big Day Prep Showdown.

In the opener, Jon Reschke-led Birmingham Brother Rice edged Detroit Public Schools power Martin Luther King 28-21 thanks to a 78-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

Reschke, one of the top linebackers in the Midwest for 2012, played through illness to help his team to victory. Reschke, whose father played at Michigan State, has offers from Michigan State and Toledo. The Brother Rice standout received his offer from the Spartans shortly after putting up impressive numbers at a one-day camp in July. Reschke is being recruited heavily by Michigan State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Northwestern among others.

Michigan State commitment Aaron Burbridge caught three passes for 57 yards in a blowout 43-7 win over defending Detroit Public School League champion Cass Tech. Harrison led the Technicians 29-0 at halftime.
