Dillard heading back to MSU
One of the top offensive line recruits in the Midwest for the class of 2013 will be Cameron Dillard of Canton High School. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound prospect just finished up an impressive junior campaign and is now looking forward to the recruiting process.
Michigan State is taking a close look at several in-state offensive linemen for the class of 2013 and Dillard is near the top of the list of players being evaluated. Spartanmag.com caught up with Dillard and got the details on his recruitment and his future plans.
Dillard and his Canton High School team just finished up a solid senior season. Unfortunately they fell short of their goal of winning a state title when they lost a hard fought game in the District Finals to Detroit Catholic Central by a score of 21-14.
We talked with Dillard about his season and his future plans
"It was a tough loss to CC considering we were ahead 14-7 at half. I still can't believe my entire season came down to one play with 2:34 remaining, we are stopped a yard short on 4th and 5. Next season I am going to make sure we execute the entire 48 minutes. Now I am turning my focus towards getting better for next season."
Dillard has been a frequent visitor to Michigan State and we asked him about his contact with the Spartans.
"Coach Salem, Coach Staten and Coach Samuel all sent me a note back after I told them about our loss. They said they were sorry to hear about that and they want me to come back up there soon. I told Coach Salem I was going to Arkansas this weekend and he asked me about my interest in State. I told him I would be back on campus next weekend without a doubt and am looking forward to seeing the Spartans take on the Hoosiers."
Dillard made the trip down top Fayetteville this weekend to see the Razorbacks defeat the Tennessee Volunteers. When we spoke with him he said
"I am still on my visit, it is very nice here. I am having a really good time."
In addition to the Spartans and Razorbacks, Dillard is hearing from a host of other teams as well. He gave us a rundown of the schools he has the most frequent contact with.
I talk with Coach Shelby from Indiana, Coach Higgins from Purdue, Coach Stripling from Cincinnati and Coach Bendbuagh from West Virginia, Dillard said. I also talk with some other coaches too."
Dillard already has a scholarship offer from Eastern Michigan University on the table. He will be giving the Spartan coaches a copy of his senior highlight film in the near future. That film, coupled with how well he performs this spring and summer at camps will determine just how many scholarships Dillard will be offered. Judging by the amount of early interest he is receiving, look for that number to be in the double-digits by the time his senior season roles around.
