Barnwell still thinking Cuse?

Rochester (NY) East defensive end Poncho Barnwell gave Syracuse a verbal commitment at the beginning of last summer. Unfortunately Barnwell had some obstacles to clear and he was unable to get over all of them.

CuseConfidential.com was able to speak with one of Barnwell's coaches Sean Banks for more on the situation.

"Poncho's commitment to Syracuse was a verbal agreement that was contingent on qualifying academically. It was used as an incentive to applying himself in the classroom."

Doug Marrone still plans to see Barnwell on the Syracuse campus next season.

"Marrone, in his quest to sign Rochester area athletes, will not give up on Poncho. They would like him to attend Milford Academy next fall," Banks said.

In case anybody forgot about what kind of player Barnwell is Banks was quick to give a quick rundown of the three star prospects skills.

"Poncho is a fast, high motor player that used his athletic ability to cause havoc in opponent's backfield. His versatility allowed him to play middle linebacker for us also. He's good at using his hands to defeat blocks," Banks stated. Poncho runs a legit 4.6 forty at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds. Rochester's defensive player of the year with 70 tackles and 10 sacks."

When prospects head to a prep school they can re-open the recruiting process, but that will not be the case here.

"He will keep his commitment to Syracuse."
