Likely eyes trip to Wake

Wake Forest's coaching staff likes 'The Muck,' which is the Lake Okeechobee area and the home of Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Central cornerback Will Likely.

It is called 'The Muck,' because of its rich soil, while college coaches see it as a reservoir of elite talent. Wake has enjoyed its benefits; Zachary Allen, Dominique Gibson and Merrill Noel just to name a few. The Demon Deacons are working to get Likely to join the list.

"I talk with those guys from time to time," Likely said. "I'm looking forward to watching all of them just go out and have fun and come out with a W and just play their hearts out [against UNC]."

The 5-foot-7 and 175-pounder added the Wake freshman quarterback Tyler Cameron, who is from Jupiter, Fla., is a great guy.

He will take an official visit to Wake Forest Saturday, Sept. 8. His former high school teammate and Demon Deacon strong safety Gibson will be his host.

"I wanted to visit it [Wake] and see how best it will fit me, and see if its comfortable for me, what kind of schemes," Likely said. "They got good coaches like Coach Mac. He's a cool guy. That's what it's about. I'm just trying to go up and see what the atmosphere is like."

Ray McCartney is Likely's primary recruiter for the Demon Deacons.

"He's a cool guy," Likely said. "He's a great coach at the same time. He's one of those coaches that's willing to work with you. He wants to coach you up, and wants you to be the best no matter where you go. He just wants to be that guy. He wants you to be great."

Likely, who is as a four-star recruit, the nation's No. 17 cornerback, the nation's No. 194 overall prospect and the No. 26 overall prospect in Florida by Rivals.com, has also been in contact with Wake Forest secondary coach Tim Duffie.

"He [Duffie] came to the school a few times, and I have spoken with him on the phone a few times," Likely said. "He's a great DB coach. He not only wants to help you become a successful football player, but also a young man in life."

Likely does not have any favorites in his list of schools, but said Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Stanford, Tennessee and Wake Forest come to mind for the Sunshine State star when he rattles off programs of interest.

He does not know where he will take his other official visits.

Likely plans to choose a school by the end of the season.
