Myles making his way back
After leading Starkville to the Class 5A State Championship game last season, the year did not start off the way that Gabe Myles planned.
The Yellow Jacket signal caller was bottled up in the opener by Noxubee County and suffered an ankle sprain which kept him out the next two weeks. But Myles vowed to return by district play which is exactly what happened.
"We know who we are," Myles said. "The seniors and the upperclassmen have been through the part. Last year we were 2-2 going into division play and it's kind of the same thing this year being 1-3. Those games don't count on whether you get to the playoffs or not. They were important games but won't affect us in the long run. As a team we feel we're in the right spot and right where we need to be."
Myles fought through the pain and helped Starkville off to a 1-0 start in league play with a 48-0 win on the road at Lanier last week. He completed 6-of-7 passing for 123 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in that contest.
