MSU commits: Hicks draws big comparison

This is the second in a SpartanMag.com series profiling the latest on Michigan State's 2013 verbal commitments, with insight from the commitments' high school coaches:

Darian Hicks dominated the stat sheet on both sides of the ball this season at Solon High School in Ohio.

Hicks is hoping to also contribute on the stat sheet at Michigan State once he puts on the Spartan uniform.

As a defensive back, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Hicks had nine solo tackles, six assists, four interceptions and one fumble recovery as a senior in 2012.

He caught 33 passes for 542 yards and eight touchdowns on offense.

"He's extremely athletic," said Solon coach Jim McQuaide. "He's a cornerback who has a great combination of being physical, being a strong guy, but is skilled enough to cover guys all over the field,

"He's done a good job in the weight room. He's getting bigger and bigger. He has an advantage of covering guys and being physical."
