Hammond ready to enroll
Nearly a year ago, B.J. Hammond began what would be a busy summer for Mississippi State on the recruiting front.
The Bulldogs landed a majority of their commitments during the summer months including six over a five day span in early June that began with Hammond.
But the recruiting process did not end there for the three-star wide receiver. Hammond, who had scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Murray State, Ole Miss, Purdue, Southern Miss, Tennessee Tech and UAB, was recruited down to the wire but kept his commitment to MSU before things quieted down.
"It was crazy going from no phone calls or mail to getting all kinds of stuff," Hammond said. "Every day when I would come home momma would say I had some mail or so and so had called. It was kind of hectic for a while so lately it's been good. I was ready for it to stop honestly but for a while everything was fun."
Hammond inked his national letter of intent on signing day along with several other Gadsden (Ala.) City teammates. He sent in his paperwork early that morning and had a celebration at the school later that afternoon. It was during that ceremony that he decided to have a little fun with his classmates.
"It seemed like the last day of school because we'd made it this far," Hammond said. "That afternoon everybody did their little signing presentation. I did a little trick and wowed everybody. I had everybody thinking I was going to Kentucky so that was fun. It was great. We took a lot of pictures and the school had cake for us. I had interviews all over the place. It was fun and they were happy to see that we were doing something with our life. It was a day where the whole school focused in on us."
The 6-foot-4 wideout hauled in 15 passes for 306 yards and three touchdowns in a run-oriented offense for the Titans and was rated as the No. 23 prospect in Alabama last year.
