Sam Haskins talks about ECU visit

FORT LEE, VA. - Dinwiddie (Va) Dinwiddie wideout Sam Haskins got his first offer recently and it was from the Big Ten and Minnesota with more offers likely to be on the way soon.

ECU is recruiting the 6-6 Haskins and he has visited Greenville, but the Pirates have not extended an official offer as Haskins is still somewhat of an unknown quantity.

"We were invited, I went to junior day with two of my teammates (linebacker Bradley Johnson who has an ECU offer and offensive lineman Nick Watts and I sent off some film of my highlights and the recruiting coach said they would be recruiting me," said Haskins,
"I was excited after attending on junior day - it looks like a real good college to go to."

Coach Billy Mills is among the best in the area and he has had good things to say about
the Dinwiddie junior to Rivals.com.

"Sam has great speed especially with that size, a 4.6-second 40-yard dash. He also has a 35 to 40 inch vertical and is very athletic. He has great strength and can really block," said Coach Mills, "I think people like what he does at receiver
although as a sophomore he was a defensive end for us and was a great pass rusher. He really knew how to get pressure."

When asked, Haskins described his visit to
Junior Day at East Carolina.

"Coach Kirkpatrick talked to us about the recruiting process and a little bit about what they have going on at ECU and all they have planned for the future. They talked about the offense," Haskins said, "We got to see the field, the weight room we got to see the offense they run and it's a lot like what I'm used to."

The Dinwiddie junior, who has also visited Richmond, also plans to be at the combine in Chapel Hill on May 2nd and earlier told Rivals.com, "I've called the coaches at Virginia and seen Virginia Tech's coaches come by."

Last season Haskins posted 200-yards receiving and four touchdowns with limited touches in his first year as a fulltime receiver after being moved around to various positions as a sophomore.

Dinwiddie collected nine wins against only two losses and won the Central District Championship, making the Division 5 playoffs in Virginia and Haskings talked about his junior season.

"It went alright but I look for more opportunities this year. I didn't have a whole lot of opportunities because we had a lot of other good receivers too."

What will Haskins' decision come down to and when does he expect to make his college choice?

"I'm going to research the school and see how it compares to the other schools I get offers from and I guess I will wait til sometime after the season before I commit."

Asked about his interest in the Pirates, Haskins had this to say.

"I am highly interested in ECU. They did say they would be recruiting me, but I haven't heard anything about an official offer yet."

What does Haskins think of the Greenville, North Carolina program, how did he like his visit, and how do the Pirates stack up?

"I'm looking for a school that throws the ball and runs a lot of spread," according to the 6-6, 205 pound Generals receiver in referring to ECU, "That's one of the top schools on my list."

Haskins who includes and holds an offer from Minnesota also adds, "Georgia and Auburn are also among my favorites."
