Ole Miss playing from behind for Dixon

Ricardo Dixon's summer is just four days old.

Here's hoping he got in all the R&R he needs, because the Hallandale, Fla., cornerback is about to get really busy.

First, Dixon will be making the trip north from the Miami area to Tallahassee, where he will spend two weeks working out with his good friend and fellow recruit, James Green. On June 20, he will head to Tampa to take an unofficial visit to South Florida. One week later, he'll make the trek north to Columbia, S.C., for an unofficial trip to see Steve Spurrier and South Carolina.

"That's all I have planned so far," Dixon said.

South Carolina and South Florida appear to have a leg up in the race for Dixon's speedy services, but Dixon said Monday that "every school's still in. Anything can happen. I haven't even been on any visits yet."

Specifically, Dixon said he favors Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn, Rutgers, Ole Miss and South Carolina as the summer begins. South Carolina's appeal, Dixon said, is his connection with Gamecock assistant coach Robert Gillespie.

"He's telling me I could get playing time as a freshman," Dixon said. "I probably won't start but as the years move on I'll work up the depth chart."

Dixon is building a similar relationship with Ole Miss cornerbacks coach/recruiting coordinator Chris Vaughn. While the Rebels are "like fifth or sixth right now, I'm real optimistic about going there. I want to see their campus. Coach Vaughn likes me because he said I'm real special with the ball in my hands. He wants me to come up and see the campus for myself."

Dixon said he will "definitely" take one of his five allotted official visits to Ole Miss, adding that he intended to get much closer to National Signing Day in February before making a commitment to his school of choice.
