Chambers talks Iowa, recruiting
Worcester (Mass.) Worcester Academy defensive end Keensen Chambers took his first official visit of the recruiting process over the weekend and he came away from it feeling great.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pound lineman has flown in largely under the radar this year but coaches at several schools have tagged him as a diamond in the rough with a big upside.
Chambers took an official visit to Iowa and watched as the Hawkeyes defeated Purdue to move to 7-4 on the year. It was their fourth win in their last five games, and Chambers was excited about the environment he found himself in.
"I'm back in Massachusetts now and I had a great time over there," Chambers reported. "It went really good. I just loved it.
"When I first arrived over there (at Iowa) they gave me a tour of the place and I met the coaches. Then I met with some of the other players, including one of the guys that was my host."
Chambers' host was J.D. Griggs, a freshman defensive end from New Jersey that knows all about making a transition from the east coast to Iowa.
"The fans, they were just incredible," he said. "They have an incredible fan base and that's what really made it amazing. I just love the place. They're definitely high on my list right now. I'd say they're up there near the top."
Chambers plans on taking official visits to Tulane (December 5) and UConn (December 12). He's hoping other schools start to get involved.
"Hopefully some others will get into the mix, but I'm happy with what I've got now. The trip to Iowa really moved them up my list. I'm hoping I start to hear more from a couple of others so I can take all five of my officials. I know I'm probably going to make my decision sometime in late December."
