Hope signs JUCO WR
Needing more help at the wide receiver position, Coach Danny Hope signed junior college player Keith Carlos today.
Carlos is a 6-foot-1, 202-pounder from Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa. He's originally from Bridgeport, Conn.
Carlos visited the Purdue campus this past weekend and attended the Boilermakers' men's basketball win over Indiana.
"He's a very good player," Hope said. "He's very fast and has good size.
"He was real intriguing in the evaluation process because he played two positions last year, some at the wide receiver position and some as a tailback in the I-formation."
Carlos, who originally committed to Temple, is the fourth wide receiver Hope signed as part of his first recruiting class as Purdue's head coach. The class currently consists of a total of 21 players.
Carlos is expected to arrive on Purdue's campus this summer and be in the receiver rotation for the 2009 season.
"He can come in and help," Hope said. "I wouldn't go out and sign a junior college guy right now if I didn't think he could come in and help us."
Even with the addition of Carlos, the Boilermakers are still thin numbers wise in the receiving corps so it's not out of the realm of possibilities that Hope sign another receiver in the coming weeks.
