Feeling the Love!
Ryan Reid is a touchy feely kind of recruit. It is isn't that Sherman defensive back
But he doesn't mind attention that he's getting from the programs who have offered him at this point of the recruiting process. Reid is holding offers from Baylor, Oklahoma, Arizona and Texas Tech.
What those offers mean is that quality BCS programs have no problem pursuing the 5-9, 187 defensive back if others may not be so sure.
"I talk to [coach Jim] Gush a lot on facebook, so I know Baylor is serious,'' the 2012 prospect said. At this point, I'm getting a lot of love from Baylor and from Arizona. So right now it's a fight between those two. But Oklahoma is starting to show me some love too.''
Once the South Oak Cliff transfer's spring football season at Sherman concludes, he said he plans on going to the camps of the four schools who have offered. He said he has the dates for when those camps are going to be held.
But Reid's summer will be busy. Not only is he going to have to make travel plans, he needs to coordinate time off from his part-time job and balance summer school. He's also planning on taking the SAT on June 4. Of course, Baylor was one of the first programs to offer him.
"I haven't been to Waco yet,'' Reid said. "When I get to these camps, I want to get to know the head coaches better. I know [defensive backs' coach Carlton Buckels] pretty well after talking to him. Wherever I go, I know I'm going to be in a battle for playing time and to see where I can work my way on the depth chart. If it's not my freshman year, it can be my sophomore year.''
Sherman began spring football workouts on May 1. Reid said he's probably going to return to play more cornerback this year because that is his more natural position. In 2010, he played free safety because that was more of a position of need.
But that's why these BCS schools are pursuing him.
"All of the schools that I have talked with said they liked my aggressive play and how well I recover on balls and that I can chase receivers down,'' he said. "I know I can cover the field, especially against the other team's best receiver.''
