Davis all set for Army Bowl
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection tour is coming close to an end but there are still a few stops to make along the way. On Friday morning it entered the state of Louisiana for the latest ceremony.
In front of the entire school at an assembly, Shreveport Woodlawn defender Torshiro Davis was officially named as the latest U.S. Army All-American.
The honor was a big one for the 6-foot-3, 225-pound senior. He knows that not many players have a chance to be in his position.
"They say there are only 90 guys playing in it," Davis said. "I'm one of those 90 so that's really special. That they thought to invite me means a lot to me. It's a really big deal to be honored like that."
Davis says he is aware of the history of the game and one alumnus in particular sticks out to him.
"I was just looking up all the guys that have played in it in the past," he said. "It's cool to see that there are a ton of NFL guys that went through there.
"I know that Patrick Peterson played in it. He's one of my favorite players. I would love to be able to accomplish everything he has. That's my goal. This game is just the start of that."
Davis, an LSU commit, has not had a chance to talk to any other players in this year's game just yet but he says he is looking forward to doing so all week in San Antonio.
"I don't really know any of the guys playing in it right now," he said. "It's supposed to be a lot of fun down there though. I'm sure I'll get to meet a ton of guys that are all really cool. I'll get to meet people I'm going to play against in college."
Davis, the No. 118 overall prospect in the nation, played mostly defensive end for Woodlawn this season but plans to move to outside linebacker at the next level. He is not sure where he will be lining up for the Army game though.
"I think they want to play defensive end in the game but I'm not sure," he said. "I may be playing outside linebacker but I really don't know just yet. I played some linebacker this year so if they want me to play there I'm fine doing that. It won't be a big adjustment or anything."
Davis and the West team take on the East in the 12th annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The game will be nationally televised on NBC.
