A week ago, after UM's Spring Game, Palmetto Bay (FL) Westminster Christian 4-star standout Jordan CronkriteClick Here to view this Link. told CaneSport that the Hurricanes were "high up there for me."
And today they got even higher - he officially joined the UM family, choosing the Canes from among his 26 offers.
"Recent events made me decide tonight," Cronkrite told CaneSport.com. "I have been to UM a lot lately, been talking to coach (Hurlie) Brown and coach (Al) Golden and coach (James) Coley a lot.
"I felt it was the right time. When I went to the spring game I had a good conversation with coach (Micheal) Barrow, so I have been thinking about it since then.
"I'm very excited. Coach Golden was lost for words (when I committed) but I could tell that he was really excited.""
Cronkrite says in the end he chose the Canes over Oregon State, Ohio State and Florida.
"Miami fits my style of play," said Cronkrite, who landed a UM offer Jan. 24. "They can help me get to the next level.
Cronkrite was recruited to play running back at UM - he plays tailback and defensive back in high school.
"They know I can play defense, too, but they prefer me at running back," he said. "I dont have a preference. I consider myself a football player."
Cronkrite adds that "They are getting a player who can do it all on the field, an every down back.
Cronkrite was rated the No. 9 offensive prospect by Rivals.com's Woody Wommack at March's Rivals Camp Series. Wommack wrote that "He flashed an impressive set of hands and nice acceleration during one-on-ones. There's no doubt his future is as an every down back, but it's clear he is more than capable of contributions in the passing game as well."
The bottom line now that Cronkrite is a Cane?
"It's a big weight off my back now," he said. "I can focus more on my team and team goals. We want to work harder than last year so we can go past the Regional finals and make state my senior year."
