4-star RB: Cross-country visit to UM `a great trip'

Fontana (Calif.) Summit High School RB Stephen Carr took an unofficial visit to Miami for the spring game.

"I just went down there to visit the school," he said. "I wanted to see it for myself, me and the coaches had been communicating, so I thought I might as well see what it's all about.

"It was a great trip. The coaches and players showed me a great time. I had a fun time out there in Miami."

He was in Miami for two days.

Carr is a USC commitment, and he's taken other visits to Michigan and UCLA.

Does UM have a chance?

"Yes," Carr said. "I like the coaching staff, they're very player friendly. What they've been telling me about it there, I feel they'd be able to help me out.

"I know Miami, they have one of the highest rates of sending running backs to the league, that really sticks out to me."

Of why he committed to USC, Carr said, "it's been my dream school, and it's something about the coaching staff that just pulls me in, and the school is amazing, It's not too far, but distance isn't really a factor."

Miami started recruiting Carr at the end of his football season.

"They're recruiting me very hard, telling me I'm a great player, I'm like no one they've seen and that I'd be a great fit to the program.

"Thomas Brown, him being a running back at Georgia, we connect on a lot of things. Me and him are cool."

Carr says he'll announce a final decision on signing day.

CaneSport's take

Carr would be a huge addition to Mark Richt's program, but unfortunately he's very much a longshot. When we spoke with him he was noncommittal on if he'll return to UM for an official visit.
