Norcross (GA) High School 5-star DE/LB Lorenzo CarterClick Here to view this Link. says the Canes are among the schools he's giving serious consideration.
And UM has a big factor in its favor: Carter grew up a Miami fan.
"Growing up I loved Miami, loved them as early as I can remember," Carter said. "I lived in Memphis when I started liking them. I think it was the colors that pulled me in, and I said `I like this team.'"
Carter says he's keeping his recruitment wide open and isn't naming any favorites. So far he's taking unofficial visits to Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Clemson and Alabama.
Coach Micheal Barrow is recruiting him to Miami.
"He's come to our practices and I've talked to him (on the phone)," Carter said. "He's a cool guy. I'd love to get down there so I can sit down and talk to him."
Carter says UM is among numerous programs sending him tons of recruiting mail. He says it's gotten to the point it's too many letters to read - he puts them all in boxes.
Carter says he will open some letters "if they're handwritten, bulky."
He says the biggest factors in any decision will be "if they have my major, engineering, and the depth chart. I want to go there and play early at a high level."
One thing coaches won't have to worry about with Carter is if he'll stay humble despite his 5-star status.
"I have my older sisters to keep me humble - I have two of them and they remind me that they used to beat me up," Carter says with a laugh.
So when will he narrow things down?
"I really don't even know who will be in that final group, but I think I'll narrow it down by the summer," Carter said.
