5-star Grimes: UM in final 4, I'll visit campus in next couple of weeks

St. Thomas Aquinas High School WR Trevon Grimes has every school in the country chasing him, including Miami.

But the perception is that UM is on the outside looking in with this 5-star prospect.

Ohio State is the favorite, and he told CaneSport at today’s High School Media Day that Florida, Florida State and Miami round out his final four.

He will announce a decision Aug. 24.

Asked where he’ll announce, Grimes said, “I’m not sure yet. It’ll be a big surprise.”

He’ll visit Miami before school starts, at some point in the next couple of weeks.

“I’m going to get back down to Miami and visit, talk to coach (Ron) Dugans and see what sparks with that,” he said.

He says he’ll have to see if he feels at home on the visit and will talk with his former teammates Sam Bruce and Michael Irvin II while there “and receive feedback from them.”

Of Dugans, who is in regular contact with Grimes, the receiver says “me and him we talk about recruiting here or there, but we talk about life stuff, how he feels he can better me as a person, a human being, and what he feels Miami can bring to the table for me and how I’d fit in so well with that program.”

CaneSport’s take

Cane fans can dream, can't they? They may take the “it’ll be a big surprise” quote to mean he won’t pick Ohio State, although he may have just been talking about where he’ll be announcing the decision as being a surprise location. We’re not going there re Miami possibly being a surprise pick. UM is on his backburner and that last trip to Miami will be the Canes’ final chance to try and wiggle to the top. We’re not overly optimistic, but stay tuned on this one.
