Acheampong set to announce Friday, UM made big impression over weekend

Anaheim (Calif.) Fairmont Prep DE Collins Acheampong took his Miami Hurricanes official visit over the weekend.

And he’s set to announce his decision on Friday.

Most see this as a Michigan-Miami battle, and certainly UM put its best foot forward to try and sway him to Coral Gables over the weekend.

“It was great to talk to the coaches and connect with them in person,” Acheampong said. “I already had a great relationship with them, and to see that it’s not just how they are on phone is great. They all came from different backgrounds but definitely put in the work to be successful by playing and now have also put in years coaching.

“It’s also great knowing they have the legend, Jason Taylor on the staff teaching you firsthand.”

Acheampong was hosted by transfer DL Akheem Mesidor.

A highlight?

“My favorite part of the visit was the Legends Camp,” Acheampong said. “(It was great getting) to meet the alumni and also seeing how the coaches coach.”

Now it’s onward to the final decision. Acheampong says his final four is Miami, Michigan, LSU and UCLA.

So stay tuned July 1.

“I’ve definitely loved all my trips and learned a lot from the coaches,” Acheampong said. “I've just got to sit back and reflect with my family and I'm confident I'll have my decision then.”

Miami made up ground on Michigan with the official visit, and it’ll be interesting to see what transpires July 1 after Acheampong and his family really zero in on a final decision.
