After visit, Canes remain in mix with Christian Williams

He certainly isn't ready to switch his commitment from Alabama to Miami just yet. Daphne (Ala.) High School DB Christian Williams was a man of few words after his visit to Coral Gables, saying he didn't want to have a detailed discussion about his trip.

But Williams did confirm for CaneSport that Miami remains very much in his recruiting picture with an official visit to Alabama remaining next weekend.

So after stealing offensive coordinator Dan Enos from the Tide, is it really possible Miami will grab a prized recruit from the Tide also?

Here is what we know:

Rumph started recruiting Williams a little more than two weeks ago. They clearly are developing a bond.

When Williams decided not to sign with Alabama after the early signing day, sources told CaneSport that Tide coaches were not very happy. Couple that with the fact that Alabama also signed four other defensive backs, including late pickup Jordan Battle from Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, and also athlete DeMarcco Hellams , expected to be a safety, and the need for Williams became much less pressing.

But Alabama has not dropped Williams. The Tide are undergoing an extensive coaching staff transition and are in the process of evaluating their final moves in recruiting. Williams is still scheduled to visit Tuscaloosa next weekend.

Also under consideration is LSU and there are whispers Oregon is trying to get Williams to visit the final weekend.

So while this has been trending upward for Miami, the Canes are a long way from home.

CaneSport's Take: This is a recruitment that looks like it will go down to the wire, but Williams clearly was concerned with the number of defensive backs being recruited by Alabama. While Alabama did not drop him, Tide coaches also did not make any great effort to try to keep him from taking other visits. So this is a prospect to keep an eye on down the stretch of recruiting for sure and would be a great late win for the Hurricanes.
