Cane Countdown 50-to-1: No. 50 OL George Brown

CaneSport is breaking down the roster regardless of position from No. 50-1 heading into fall camp.

NO. 50 OL GEORGE BROWN

Listed measurables: 6-7, 300

Eligibility: Redshirt sophomore

Depth chart analysis: An LSU transfer who redshirted last year, expectations were that Brown would come in this spring and challenge for a starting tackle job. That didn’t happen. He was promoted for one practice before swiftly being kicked down the depth chart the rest of spring ball. We’re far from labeling him a bust, though, as he’s got plenty of football ahead of him at UM. But next year might be his real opportunity as we don’t see him in the starting mix in 2017.

Why he's No. 49: Brown looks the part of a dominating tackle at 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds and with good enough athleticism. But he’s not consistent enough and his technique needs refining. Unless he comes into fall ball a completely new player his best hope is to be rotated in to help spell KC McDermott and Tyree St. Louis.

2017 Outlook: Brown will have to hold off some new faces to be on the two deep and if he’s not one of the primary backup tackles that would be a bad sign for his future at Miami.

Down The Road: When KC McDermott graduates after this season it’ll be a big opportunity that Brown will try to seize. So 2018 spring ball will really be the best indication for if Brown is a guy coaches feel they can trust at the all important left tackle position as a starter. He’s got a lot of work to do if he wants to fulfill his potential.
