Canes land Vasiljevic

Australian standout Dejan Vasiljevic announced on Twitter today that he's made his college decision.

He's a Hurricane.

In the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships he averaged 13.3 points and 3.1 rebounds a game for Australia. His skill set has been compared favorably with Drazen Petrovic.

He is well known in the international community.

He averaged nearly 20 points per game in the 2013 FIBA Oceania U16 Championship, 12.6 at the 2014 FIBA Oceania U18 Championship and 13.3 at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship. He had 29 points against a highly regarded United States team (all four and five-star prospects) in the 2014 tournament. And he had 25 points against Canada in the 2015 event and 30 against Cal during a 2015 game in Australia.

Vasiljevic emerged as a top prospect for European professional basketball teams but instead of turning pro he'll play for the Canes and earn his degree.

Vasiljevic rounds out a stellar UM class that includes top 50 guard Bruce Brown, No. 114-ranked recruit Rodney Miller, transfer Rashad Muhammad (13.9 points last year at San Jose State) and 5-star McDonald's All-American Dewan Huell.
