Commit taking visits, will camp at UM

Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard High School DE Jon Ford is a Hurricane commitment, and he says he’ll be on hand for a Cane camp June 17.

“I want to have a chance to work with coach Kool (Craig Kuligowski) and the staff, just get a feeling of what it'll be like when I'm there,” said Ford, who has over 30 scholarship offers.

Ford will be on campus with teammate Jordan Wright, who lists a Cane offer but is uncommitted.

“Miami’s definitely in the running for Jordan, but I don't know if he'll commit now or wait,” Ford said. “It's kind of tough to tell what he'll do because of his options (with numerous top offers), but at the same time I feel he has what it takes to be a Cane and will be a Cane. It's just a matter of time.”

Both are being recruited by Kuligowski, and Ford has formed a strong bond with the new Cane coach.

“He’s just telling me how he can't wait to get me down there,” Ford said. “We stay in touch with each other mainly every day.

“Coach Kool is a very cool person. That’s another reason I'm going to the camp, just to work with him because he's a cool coach, is a great coach.”

As far as his own recruitment, Ford says he’ll take numerous visits this summer. He says Florida, Florida State, Syracuse, Alabama, USC, Wisconsin and Arkansas are among the unofficial trips he plans to take.

“I’m kind of solid (with Miami), but I’m going to take my visits just to see other options,” Ford says.

* Of what he improved most in spring ball, Ford said, “I improved my speed, quickness and using my hands.”

CaneSport’s take

It’s a bit worrisome that Ford is taking so many summer visits, but certainly the bond he has with Kuligowski and the Canes being near his family and friends should be enough to keep him on board in this class. As for Wright, we have a good feeling about him winding up a Cane as well.
