Darron Reed: Cane OV "helped Miami move up with me a lot"
Columbus (Ga.) Carver High School DL Darron Reed took his Miami Hurricanes official visit this weekend.
The upshot of it?
“This helped Miami move up with me a lot,” said Reed, who also visited UM in mid-April. “It was just the atmosphere down there and the family vibe.”
Reed took the trip down with his father and aunt.
“For me a highlight was just talking with the coaches, mainly with coach (Joe) Salave’a,” Reed said. “He’s a great coach. The coaches were just telling me how the 2023 class is the foundation for what’s coming.”
Reed also got one-on-one time with Mario Cristobal and says the message from the head coach was “that I’m a key player and key asset for them. He’s a great guy.”
Reed has already taken an official visit to LSU, and he’ll next take a midweek trip to Auburn with an Ohio State OV next weekend.
He says he’s standing by a July 4 announcement date.
“Miami’s a top school,” Reed said. “One of the top for me.”
So there’s a lot of wait-and-see here.
Also of note: Reed says when it came to his fellow recruits that he spent the most time with Jayden Wayne.
“He’s a pretty cool guy and he liked it a lot,” Reed said.
CaneSport’s take
Miami’s right in the mix here, so his July 4 announcement will be one to monitor for sure. But now UM has to weather these last two official visits. The Canes put themselves in a good spot for now, though.
