Dawsey out as FSU WRs coach; future with 'Noles uncertain
Florida State wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Lawrence Dawsey will not be back for a 12th season as the Seminoles' wide receivers coach in 2018; the former FSU All-American was notified of the decision on Thursday.
Dawsey confirmed the news to Warchant late Thursday, but said he still would like to remain with the Seminoles and new head coach Willie Taggart's staff in some capacity. It is not yet known if that will happen.
Dawsey has one more year remaining on a three-year contract that pays him $472,000 annually. Because former FSU coach Jimbo Fisher left for another job, he and/or Texas A&M will be responsible for that salary if Dawsey does not take another coaching position.
Dawsey came to FSU in 2007 along with Fisher, who then was offensive coordinator, and offensive line coach Rick Trickett.
Former FSU wide receiver Ron Dugans, who currently coaches receivers at Miami, is believed to be the top candidate to be Dawsey's replacement. Dugans was non-committal this week when asked by reporters in Miami if he would be back with the Hurricanes next season.
