The Miami Hurricanes football program continues to make its stamp in the NFL as Sunday's super bowl between the Kansas City and Philadelphia will have former Miami Hurricane player Deon Bush as a member of the Chiefs. Miami has the most player appearances than any other school in the nation.
Bush was a Four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 5 safety prospect, No. 68 overall prospect, and No. 12 prospect in the state of Florida. As a senior, he made 40 stops and had seven interceptions.
In his junior season at Miami pipeline Columbus, Bush returned one punt for a touchdown and compiled 50 tackles and three interceptions. In his sophomore campaign, collected 47 tackles and two interceptions. Bush chose UM over Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Florida State.
In four seasons at Miami Bush totaled 168 total tackles, four sacks, four interceptions, and 13 pass deflections. He earned All-ACC Third team in 2015.
Bush was drafted in 2016 by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round. In Chicago, he saw action in 79 games (12 starts) and recorded 68 tackles (53 solo), 1.0 sack (-7.0 yards), three interceptions returned for 52 yards, 10 pass breakups, and one forced fumble. Bush signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on March 28th, 2022 for the opportunity to play in the big game.
“I had other offers,” Bush said, “but when you think of Kansas City, you think of the chance to be in the AFC Championship or be in the Super Bowl. Man, that’s the reason a lot of us, most of us, come here.”
This season Bush tallied 11 tackles and one pass deflection. He has 100 career tackles one sack, one forced fumble, three interceptions, and 11 pass deflections. By Sunday's end, he could be a super bowl champion.
Also of note, former Miami Hurricane and Houston transfer and fourth-string offensive tackle Jarrid Williams is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. The last Miami Hurricane on a super bowl roster was Danny Isidora in Super Bowl 55.
