FSU making move for Cane commit

Citra (Fla.) North Marion High School Class of 2018 CB Jalen Patterson is Cane commitment.

But he says Florida State is pushing hard for him.

"It's close between those two, it's right there," Patterson said.

What has FSU done to move up?

"Just they have a pretty good team, Patterson says.

Patterson says a strong Cane season "would help solidify the commitment more."

And regardless of FSU's move with him, Patterson - asked his commitment level - says "I'm still a high commitment level."

He adds of the Canes that "I feel they're a great program. And the new coaches are really cool. My main recruiter is coach (Mike) Rumph. He says I'm a good DB, that they really want me there."

Of the progress he made in the spring, Patterson said, "I was working on my coverage. I also got bigger, gained five or six pounds, and I got faster."

Cane coaches were on hand for his spring game - he had an interception.

Patterson lists seven offers and says he'll attend one of the UM summer camp sessions.

CaneSport's take

It's still early for Patterson, and he says he's also giving consideration to Tennessee - "They're right below Miami and Florida State," he says. We never understand why recruits say they are committed when they are strongly considering other schools, but that's what modern recruiting has become to some extent.
