MIAMI-FSU ONE OF BEST RIVALRIES
-Nearly half of all Miami-Florida State games (28 of 57 previous
meetings) have been decided by eight points or less, including last year's match
up.
-Seven games in the series have been decided by a single point. Miami is 7-0 in
those games.
-Saturday night will mark the 27th time in the last 31 years that at least one
team has entered the Miami-Florida State game unbeaten.
PAVING THE WAY
• Miami entered the season with 23 starts among its returning offensive lineman
- one of the youngest in the ACC.
• Through four games this season, Miami's youthful offensive line, which
consists of three sophomores and two juniors, has allowed the Hurricanes to
average 460.8 yards per game in total offense (second in the ACC).
• Miami's offensive line also has allowed just four sacks, which is tied for
first in the ACC.
• In addition, the Hurricanes lead the nation in fewest tackles for loss
allowed.
SOUTH FLORIDA DUO
-South Florida products Joe
Yearby (535) and Mark Walton (311) have combined for 846 all purpose yards and
eight touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
-Of their 846 all purpose yards, Yearby (424) and Walton (184) have combined for
466 rushing yards for an average of 5.8 yards per carry; Yearby's 7.31
yards-per-carry average ranks as the ninth-highest mark in FBS.
-Yearby and Walton also have combined for 104 carries and have only lost a
combined total of seven yards.
YIPPEE KAAYA
-Sophomore QB Brad Kaaya leads the ACC in passing yards
per game total and offense per game entering the sixth week of the season.
-Last week against Cincinnati, Kaaya had his consecutive touchdown pass streak
end at 16 consecutive games. The only Miami quarterback in the last 20 years
with a longer such streak is Ken Dorsey, who had separate streaks of 23 and 17
games.
-Kaaya has thrown just four interceptions in his last 342 attempts. He has
thrown for more than 200 yards in 12 of his 17 career games and has four
300-yard performances.
-In his start against Nebraska, Kaaya threw for a career-high 379 yards, two TDs
and one INT. The performance earned Kaaya ACC Offensive Back of the Week honors.
GREAT SCOTT
• After missing the entire 2014 campaign with an injury,
redshirt senior wide receiver Rashawn Scott has made a strong return to Miami's
wide receiver corps in 2015.
• Scott leads the ACC in receiving heading into the sixth week of the season,
averaging 76.8 yards per game.
• Scott has started all four games at wide receiver in 2015 and leads the team
in receptions (18) and yards (278). He is on pace to catch 71 passes for a total
of 1,000 yards.
• The Melbourne, Fla., native set a career mark with a nine-catch performance in
his start vs. Nebraska, totaling 151 yards - the second-highest of his career
and most since 2012.
• Scott tied a then-career high with six receptions in Miami's opener vs.
Bethune-Cookman, reaching the 100-yard mark for just the second time in his
career and adding a 16-yard TD catch.
DEFENSIVE MENTALITY
• Miami's
defense this season has recorded eight interceptions on 123 pass attempts.
• Miami's +9 turnover margin ranks second in the NCAA.
• Miami's defensive unit held Bethune-Cookman to just 79 yards in its 2015
season opener and tallied its first shutout since 2010; BCU's 79 yards of total
offense was the first time in the Al Golden era that an opponent was held to
fewer than 100 yards.
• Miami ranked No. 14 nationally in total defense in 2014, allowing an average
of just 329.6 yards per game - the fourth-best mark in the ACC.
• Of the 12 FBS teams on Miami's 2014 schedule, the Hurricanes defense held 11
of them under their season average on offense. Miami's defense held teams to an
average of 81.0 yards under their respective season averages, all while facing
the ninth-toughest schedule in the country.
• Miami's defensive yards allowed (compared to respective offense averages): 341
vs. Louisville (53.7 yards under season average), 329 vs. Arkansas State
(-147.5), 264 vs. Duke (-134.3), 371 vs. Georgia Tech (-105.5), 422 vs.
Cincinnati (-38.2), 262 vs. Virginia Tech (-103.3), 258 vs. North Carolina
(-171.8), 418 vs. Florida State (-23.4), 341 vs. Virginia (-33.3), 360 vs.
Pittsburgh (-75.4), 354 vs. South Carolina (-89.4)
• The only offense that Miami's defense did NOT hold under its season average
was Nebraska, who totaled 456 yards - just 3.7 yards over its season average of
452.3.
ARTIE AND RASHAWN
• Junior
cornerback Artie Burns and safety Rayshawn Jenkins are tied for the team lead
with three interceptions. Both players have tallied a pick in three of Miami's
first four games.
• Heading into the sixth week of the college football season, Burns and Jenkins
are tied for the ACC lead in interceptions per game, averaging 0.75.
• Burns became the first Hurricane player with an interception in three
consecutive games since Sean Taylor in 2003 (via AP).
• In addition, Burns became the sixth Cane in the last 20 years with three
interceptions over a threegame span joining Sean Taylor, Ed Reed, Phillip
Buchanon, Kenny Phillips and Kelly Jennings (via AP).
• Burns also is an accomplished track and field athlete. He finished second in
the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.70 seconds at the ACC Championships. He also
competed in the NCAA Championships.
• Jenkins missed the entire 2014 season with an injury and has made 15 career
starts.
CAN
OF CORN
• Junior cornerback Corn Elder has
emerged among Miami's top playmakers in 2015.
• Elder had a dominant outing last time out vs. Nebraska, recording a
career-best four pass breakups and a crucial interception on the Cornhuskers'
first drive in OT to help clinch a victory for Miami.
• Elder is the only player at the FBS level with an interception and a punt
return TD this season.
• Elder leads the ACC and is ranked 12th nationally in passes defended,
averaging 1.75 per game.
• Elder ranks fourth in the ACC in punt return average (15.8).
THE SPECIALIST
• Junior punter
Justin Vogel picked up where he left off from 2014 and is off to a great start
after four games this season. Vogel currently leads the ACC and is ranked fourth
nationally in punting, averaging 48.3 yards per punt.
• He also has dropped six punts inside-the-20 yard line and has back-to-back
games with a punt over 60 yards.
YOUTHFUL CANES
Miami's 2015 roster is one of the
youngest rosters in the country. The Hurricanes' 12 seniors rank ninth among all
FBS schools nationally, while the three seniors on offense are tied for 11th
nationally.
