Miami Baseball: Canes fall to Notre Dame on the road, 6-2

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The University of Miami baseball fell to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 6-2, Friday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium.

“There wasn’t a whole lot of energy from our side,” head coach J.D. Arteaga said. “It’s our first time away from home and not a big crowd, and we were flat. Even when we were up early, there wasn’t a whole lot of energy in the dugout.”

The Hurricanes (12-9, 4-3 ACC) took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a fifth-year Jack Scanlon RBI double, but the Fighting Irish (13-8, 1-6 ACC) responded quickly.

Notre Dame scored six runs in its last four plate appearances, highlighted by a three-run seventh inning.

Miami starter Gage Ziehl (1-2) held Notre Dame hitless through four frames, retiring 12 of the first 13 batters. In the fifth, the Irish tallied two runs on four hits.

Irish right-hander Caden Spivey (1-0) tossed 2 2/3 scoreless to earn the win in relief.

In the defeat, Scanlon finished with his first three-hit performance as a Hurricane.

Miami will look to even the series on Saturday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
