Pro Comparison: Defensive End - Jayden Wayne

Miami's defensive line quietly had a productive season during the first year of the Mario Cristobal era, and that production should continue with the signing of highly-coveted four-star defensive end Jayden Wayne via IMG Academy.

The 6'5 245-250 pound edge rusher dominated the best competition in the country this past season and will look to acclimate quickly to the college level.

Wayne is built differently even among other power-five recruits. Possessing an elite frame is one thing, but to pair it with top-notch athleticism and a knack for firing off the football, you have the makings of a dominant presence on the edge.

Wayne plays with the toughness and physicality that Head Coach Mario Cristobal is looking for. The four-star is very productive in the running game utilizing his insane range to chase down running backs from the backside when teams attempt to run away from him.

Very productive rushing off the edge showing the ability to win with his first step and utilize his hands to disengage from blockers while bending, Wayne has a very high ceiling that I can see him reaching at Miami under the guidance of the defensive line coach Rod Wright and NFL hall-of-Famer Coach Jason Taylor.

"Offered a scholarship at the Pacific Northwest camp, in Portland, Oregon, four years ago," said Cristobal. "Just watching this long skinny dude. He looked like an Avatar running around all over the place, not knowing what's up. Found him, offered, four years later, one of the best players in the entire country Jayden Wayne is part of the University of Miami."

Pro Comparison: Danielle Hunter

Danielle Hunter the former LSU tiger has taken the league by storm since entering in 2015 as a 3rd round pick.

At 6'5" and 263 pounds, Hunter has dominated the edge in the running game while utilizing his freakish athleticism to rack up sacks.

Wayne is built very similarly at 6'5 245 pounds, and can easily see him with a 260-265 playing weight as he develops over his time at Miami.

Hunter has recorded 376 total tackles, 71 sacks and 7 forced fumbles in his career while being elected to multiple pro bowls and being named an All-Pro in 2019.
