Richt pushing for 4-star

Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic 4-star DE Jordan Woods has spoken with new Cane coach Mark Richt a couple of times since he took over at Miami.

"He just told me that he's glad to be there, was just talking to me as a regular person," Woods said. "He told me about what they're trying to do at Miami, bring it back. He just said he thinks I can help bring the State of Miami back. That's what we talked about."

Woods says the Canes are "in a good place" with him right now but that he has no frontrunners among his final five of UM, Florida, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and West Virginia.

He's moved his Cane visit from the weekend of Jan. 22 to the weekend before signing day.

So far he's only visited Tennessee officially.

Asked what the Canes need to show him on the visit to land him, Woods said, "Well my whole thing with the recruiting process, and I know official visits are good, but I've been there on an unofficial and really got to see what they can offer me. The official visit is the food, everything is free. But I've seen a lot of things about Miami so it is what it is - I like everything I've seen."

Woods says he might announce a decision shortly after the UM trip.

He says his primary Cane recruiters are Larry Scott and Hurlie Brown.

"They just talk to me about personal life things, about the U," Woods said.

CaneSport's take

We love that he's visiting the weekend before signing day. In the old days UM would bring in the top on-the-fence guys that weekend and turn them to Miami's side. That certainly could be the case here.
