Telfort: `Miami's still in it'

Miami Booker T. Washington High School OL Kadeem Telfort is a former Cane commit now committed to Florida.

But he's not ruling out a switch back.

UM coaches continue to recruit him hard, and Telfort says "Miami's still in it."

Asked what the Canes can do to catch up to the Gators, he says, "It just depends on this season, how I feel the program is getting run and how the season goes and if they win their bowl game and if they're ranked."

Telfort says he's talking with coaches Mark Richt, Thomas Brown, Stacy Searels and Ron Dugans.

He says Searels, his position coach, "just talks to me about school, how everything is going with my family, just talks to me about getting ready for the next level. He's a good person, a nice guy, has a great personality, is a family guy who looks after everyone."

Along with Miami and Florida, Telfort says others recruiting him hard are Mississippi State, Michigan and Georgia.

"Those schools are also in the mix," he says.

And he says it's Michigan that's currently No. 2 on his list with Georgia No. 3 and the Canes No. 4.

He stresses "it's not a big gap" between the two UM's.

And Telfort says family, teammates and friends have a common message for him: "They tell me `You should go to Miami,'" he says. "I hear that a lot. I just tell them I'm weighing my options out."

CaneSport's take

Certainly it's not a great sign that UM is No. 4 on this local standout's list, but the Canes continue to push and a strong season could be the bump Miami needs. Asked if it's a major longshot he'll wind up staying home for college, Telfort offers this: "It'll be based on my visit. I'll come visit this summer."
