Three-Star 2023 QB Walk-on Vic Sutton a Solid Late Addition

Many wondered if Miami would add a second quarterback after losing four-star Florida signee Jaden Rashada. The staff stuck with their evaluation of three-star Emory Williams as the lone scholarship passer in the class, but they received an absolute gift last Sunday when Madison Central (MS) three-star Vic Sutton decided to lock in with Miami.

Sutton is a former Louisiana Tech commit who held offers from Arkansas, Maryland, and Virginia Tech among others. The decision to walk on at Miami is not without opportunity. Sutton is an elite student who was being recruited by Harvard and Yale and a one-time Power Five prospect. According to Sutton, the staff has spoken about him coming to earn a scholarship.

"My relationship with the coaches attracted me to Miami, as well as it being a long-time dream school for me," says Sutton on what led him to choose Miami over his other options.

"Coming to Miami to help bring the U back to all the glory it deserves is what I want to do. Going in an turning heads in the QB room and making a name for myself is really what attracted me to Miami."

It is a rare opportunity for a team, especially coming off of a 5-7 season, to secure a true prospect as a walk-on player, especially one that the staff is so high on.

"All the talks have been great. They have seen me throw in person and broke down my film. They love my build, my talent, and my quick but smart decision-making," said Sutton.

"They believe I would be a great addition to their scheme, being a player who can extend plays with my legs, as well as sit back and air it out."

Sutton fits the mold of the modern quarterback, combining athleticism and accuracy that is required to be successful in today's heavy-spread schemes. Last season he led his team to an 8-4 record and had over 1100 yards with 12 touchdowns while completing 65 percent of his passes, despite missing time with injuries. Sutton tore his ACL as a junior and recovered to be a key part of his team's success this year.
