Miami Basketball: Canes handled by No. 2 Duke, 97-60

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team (6-22, 2-15 ACC) fell to the No. 2/2 Duke Blue Devils (25-3, 16-1 ACC), 97-60, Tuesday night at the Watsco Center.

All eight Hurricanes in the game scored a bucket, paced by graduate student Lynn Kidd, who scored 17 points, his 16th double-digit outing.

Freshman Divine Ugochukwu totaled a career-high 10 rebounds against the Blue Devils, becoming the first Miami freshman to record 10-plus rebounds since Isaiah Wong hauled in 12 on Feb. 19, 2020.

Bethea scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half, but the Blue Devils were highly efficient on offense. They connected on 61.5 percent (8-of-13) of their 3-point attempts, leading 47-32 at halftime.

Duke’s Isaiah Evans knocked down five 3-pointers in the first half alone to lead all scorers with 16 points at halftime.

The Blue Devils held the Hurricanes to just four field goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half while simultaneously shooting 52.9 percent to lead 71-40 at the midway point of the frame.

Duke ultimately outscored Miami 50-28 in the second half and won 97-60.

Miami will travel to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday. Tipoff is set for noon, and the game will air on ESPN.
