CORAL GABLES, Fla. -The University of Miami women's basketball team fell to No. 1 Notre Dame (24-2, 15-0) Thursday evening by a final score of 82-42.
The Hurricanes (13-13, 3-12) fell behind early and could not make up the deficit, struggling offensively throughout the contest.
Cameron Williams led the way for Miami, as she posted her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 12 points on 5-9 shooting while also corralling 10 rebounds.
Jasmyne Roberts had a strong all-around outing for the Canes, as she reached 1,000 points for her career amid a nine-point, six-rebound, four-assist performance.
Haley Cavinder scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded three assists, while Hanna Cavinder added six points and four rebounds. Natalija Marshall contributed five points and six rebounds.
Notre Dame came out strong, opening the game on a 10-0 run. Just under five minutes into the contest, they built a double-digit lead. Miami responded with six consecutive points, trimming the deficit to just four points with 3:38 left in the first quarter.
Notre Dame ended the period on an 8-0 run and held an 18-6 lead over the Canes after the first 10 minutes of play. At the beginning of the second quarter, Notre Dame maintained its play, scoring the first eight points of the period to take a 26-6 lead. Miami trailed 38-13 at the halftime break.
In the second half, Notre Dame continued its strong play, but Miami eventually fell to the Fighting Irish. The Canes will return to the court on Sunday when they play their final regular-season game at the Watsco Center against Wake Forest at Noon.
