Safety Jaquan Johnson hopes to end his Cane career on a high note in the Pinstripe Bowl.
“It’s our last game, we’re going to give it our all when we step out there on the field,” Johnson said. “This is another chance to wear a University of Miami uniform. It’s another chance for me and the guys coming back next year. They want to go out on a high note just like me.”
What is the morale/focus level of the team?
“We’re approaching every day trying to win the day,” Johnson said. “We’re really excited to finally get a chance to go out and play football again.”
* Johnson’s take on Manny Diaz leaving?
“Well you know it was mixed emotions once I found out coach Diaz took the job,” Johnson said. “I was happy for him, excited knowing he was able to get a head coaching job. But I felt bad for the players that were up and coming. Mixed emotions but overall I was real happy.”
Will Diaz departing make the team want to win even more for him?
“I think we want to finish what we started,” Johnson said. “Wisconsin is a team that beat us last year. I’m pretty sure everyone on the team wants to win this game regardless of what’s going on.”
* Johnson has never been to New York before.
“It’ll be my first time,” he said, adding that he’s looking forward “to just being in New York, seeing the city, seeing Yankee Stadium. Whatever else happens I’ll just go along with it.”
